What this site does
Find My Current Location helps you answer a practical question: where am I right now? When the homepage opens, it requests an approximate location associated with your public IP address. The IP address, country, and city pages explain individual parts of that network result. It may identify an area, but it may also point to your internet provider or a VPN endpoint.
For a closer reading, the homepage and coordinates page ask your browser for a device position only when you choose the location button. They display latitude, longitude, the browser's accuracy estimate, and the time of the reading. The coordinates page also converts the numbers to degrees, minutes, seconds. The result is a point with an uncertainty radius, not an independently verified address. The homepage, IP, and city maps mark the approximate IP point. The country page highlights a selectable country outline. The homepage map receives device coordinates only if you choose to show the device point.
How the explanations are written
Our descriptions of browser behavior use public technical documentation, especially the Geolocation API documentation from MDN. The IP estimate uses GeoJS. We distinguish its network-based estimate from device coordinates and from an address inferred from mapping data. We also explain common reasons a reading may be imprecise, such as limited satellite reception or network-based positioning.
A location result should be checked against what you can observe. If you are sharing a position for directions or assistance, look at the accuracy radius and confirm a nearby landmark. In an emergency, contact the local emergency service and give them the clearest description you can of your surroundings.
